会場となった山荘は自然に囲まれた環境です。しかし、人の手で管理された林は人工的なものとも言えます。 環境を「人工と自然」という二項関係から考えてみると、実は両極などなく、中間領域とも言える大きなグラデーションが存在するだけのように思います。 片山は林の中に山荘のウッドデッキと同じ構造のウッドデッキを制作しました。山荘に付随したウッドデッキでは、計画された眺望から、そこに立つ人を無意識のうちに一方向からの視線しか存在しない、支配的な視線へと促します。そういった機能を持った構造物を山荘から離れた林の中に置くことで、この林を鑑賞の対象とするのではなく、開かれた、どちらでもなく、どちらでもある場として改めて認知するのではないでしょうか。そこに立つという行為を意識的に体験する。それによりそこに中間領域が出現するとも言えるでしょう。

The mountain lodge where the event took place is surrounded by nature. However, the forests managed by human hands can also be described as artificial. If we think of the environment in terms of the dichotomy of 'artificial and natural', there are actually no two extremes, but only a large gradient in the middle. Katayama has created a wooden deck in the forest with the same structure as the wooden deck of the mountain lodge. The wooden deck attached to the mountain lodge unconsciously encourages the viewer from the planned view to a dominant gaze, where only one direction of gaze exists. By placing a structure with such a function in a wooded area away from the villa, the wooded area is not made an object of appreciation, but is re-recognised as an open, neither-neither-neither-neither place. The act of standing there is consciously experienced. This is where the middle ground emerges.
